Please test out the remote H. 3996, a new video backend called “x264 Remote” 1c 8.3 appname: setup.exe appver: 0.0.0.0 modname: setup.exe modver: 0.0.0.0 offset: 0000a95c added.

This is an approach towards the transcoding farm and is a foundation of the mechansim. After two weeks’ continuous work, it finally works. The “x264 Remote” allows encoding of H. 264 to be done on a remote computer.

At the moment, the audio encoding is still done locally. There will be not any temporary file written on the remote computer. Here are the steps to make it work. It will listen on the default port 19819 after started.

On Video tab, set Format to H. Backend to “x264 Remote” and click the Backend button to set the IP address of the agent. Now just do what is usual to transcode a file. The computation of video transcoding will all be done on the remote computer.

The host computer will transcode the audio at full speed and then wait for the remote to end. I works on my end but I bet there must be some kind of problems in other envionment. Please report all your problems to me. Last edited by stanley on Wed May 07, 2008 2:38 am, edited 4 times in total. When things work together, things work.
